You are a talented, middle-class person in your early twenties about to start your career. You have the choice between a job in which you will make a lot of money and work long hours(e.g. investment banker, corporate lawyer, etc.) and a job which pays less but that you are more passionate about(e.g. social worker, chef, teacher, small business owner, etc.)

Welfare is given by the government to individuals in need (unemployment, families below the poverty line, limited access to basic human necessities, and so on). In the context of this debate, basic goods and services may look like (and are not limited to) subsidized housing facilities, education, food, and healthcare; and cash payments would be periodical cash allowances given directly that individuals can spend at their choice.

To reduce unemployment, governments use expansionary policies like increasing spending, cutting taxes, or lowering interest rates to boost demand and encourage hiring. For controlling inflation, they adopt contractionary policies, such as reducing spending, raising taxes, or increasing interest rates to limit excess demand and stabilize prices.

A jury is a group of citizens selected to listen to the evidence in a trial and deliver a verdict of guilty or not guilty. Defendant is a person who is being accused of a crime in a court of law.

Filial piety is a virtue of love and respect for one's parents, elders, and ancestors, particularly within the context of Confucianism and East Asian cultures. It emphasizes the importance of honoring, obeying, and caring for one's parents and elders. Acts of filial piety include obeying one's parent's wishes, taking care of them when they are old, and working hard to provide them with material comforts, such as food, money, or pampering.

The Oracle of Purpose is an ancient and trusted mechanism that assigns individuals their life roles based on an early identification of their talents. They are expected to train for and fulfill their assigned role throughout their lives (e.g., diplomat, scientist, caretaker, warrior, etc.) at the expense of pursuing other talents. Those who defy the Oracle often face exclusion or punishment.

Currently, employers are allowed to access the criminal record of job applicants. This gives them access to knowledge of if an applicant has ever been convicted of a crime or imprisoned.
