Phong trào do sinh viên lãnh đạo này đã trở nên không khoan dung, thiếu kỷ luật, phân cực chủng tộc, và ép buộc với một mức độ bạo lực nhất định. Điều này đã gây ra tổn thương tâm lý, cũng như những mất mát thực sự đối với một số sinh viên, cùng với thiệt hại 44,25 triệu đô la Mỹ về mặt tài sản. Vào năm 2016, chính phủ tuyên bố sẽ ngừng tăng học phí các trường đại học. Tuy nhiên, từ sau năm 2016, chính phủ cho phép các trường học tự định mức tăng học phí, thay vì bắt buộc một mức tăng phí giới hạn ở 8%.

The successful tuition fee model refers to a system where students only pay their tuition fees for university if they achieve the expected outcome of the course they undertake. The expected outcome will be determined by the average pay of recent graduates, or by the average ranking of the universities graduates attend for postgraduate education. E.g. if the average pay of a graduate is VND 10,000,000; and a graduate earns VND 8,000,000, the graduate is not required to pay their tuition fees.
