(WSDC primarily) Pressure refers to the effect of a particular action on an adjudicator’s assessment of a given category (Content, Style, or Strategy). Upward pressure refers to positive changes in an assessment (e.g., effectively pre-empting the opponent), while downward pressure refers to negative changes (e.g., misdefining a word).
