Set-up is a broad term that describes the 1st Proposition, and often the 1st Opposition, explaining their vision of what the world will look like on either side and what the relevant issues are in the round. This can include definitions, modelling, counterfactuals in regrets debates, stance, and framing (which can be inclusive of both characterisation or weighing). Teams do not need to use the word ‘set-up’ in order to indicate that they have fulfilled these functions.
