Ordinary Intelligent Person (OIP) / Ordinary Intelligent Voter (OIV)
Chương 13. Judging Principles · Part E: Judging
A hypothetical perspective used by judges to evaluate debates and definitions. WSDC uses OIP; BP and AP use OIV. An ordinary intelligent person (or voter, in BP format) is assumed to have common knowledge about world affairs (what one might read in a newspaper), but does not possess specialized expert knowledge or inherent biases. Debates and definitions are generally evaluated based on what the OIP/OIV would reasonably understand and accept.
