Chương 5. Case Building · Part B: Case Building
Meta commentary refers to observations made about the debate which help to establish why a team is winning or losing. These observations are not directly proving or disproving a piece of content; rather, they’re about assessing what has happened in the debate thus far in a way that will often suggest that a team has won the debate.
- Example: Pointing out contradictions, noting that a team has failed to meet their burdens, or noting that a violation of the rules has taken place (i.e. new material in third).
- UADC usage note: Appendix C uses "Meta" for the contents of the debate rather than its topic: analysing each team's individual contributions and assessing them on their skills as debaters. The WSDC sense above is the one used in this glossary.
