Symmetrical / Asymmetrical
Chương 3. Weighing · Part A: Fundamentals
- Symmetrical: Harms or benefits that occur equally on both sides of the debate (resulting in a wash). UADC 2025 Handbook, Appendix C: whatever is being explained happens on both sides; a team can show the harm pushed on them also happens on the other side, or that a promised benefit also arises on theirs.
- Example: "Both sides increase government debt."
- Asymmetrical: Harms or benefits that uniquely affect one side, making them strategically valuable.
